Living with it
A cactus that actually looks like the idea of a cactus: a ribbed golden globe. It wants the brightest windowsill you own and almost no water — a deep drink once a month in summer, essentially nothing in winter.
It’s non-toxic, so it won’t poison a curious cat, but the spines are a firm deterrent all on their own. Give it grit-heavy soil and full sun and it will outlive most of your furniture.
